Even Trump-Loving Congressmen Can Screw Themselves!

Turns out trump can in fact screw over individual trump voters and supporters when he needs to, even when they are Republican elected officials. Late yesterday news came out that Republican Congressman Mike Turner of Ohio, who WAS the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee got booted from his position by Speaker Mike Johnson. According to reporting it was because of “concerns from Mar-A-Lago”. 

Turner is a right winger who has voted with trump 92% of the time, has supported trump for years, and endorsed trump for president in 2024. An obvious and enthusiastic trump voter by all metrics, but even though he is (or I guess was) a powerful member of the Republican caucus in the House, he too was screwed by trump.

The question of course is why he was screwed, and the answer to why trump did it is the same reason as why he makes the majority of his seemingly insane foreign policy decisions: because Vladimir Putin told him to do it. 

Despite being a very loyal trumper, one issue Turner has split on trump with is support for Ukraine. He is known as one of the most pro-Ukraine and anti-Putin Republicans in Congress which would certainly explain why Putin would want him gone.

Now one might speculate that perhaps trump is just mad at Turner for some (relatively tame) criticisms he made after January 6th, but a few other Republicans have made critical statements without suffering comparable consequences. It seems that something (or someone) much more substantial must have motivated trump to interfere with the regular working process in the US House of Representatives. Even though trump hates people who criticize him, forcing Speaker Johnson to remove a US Congressmen from his Committee position is not something trump has ever been brave enough to try. It is certainly something Putin would want however and it is probably safe to assume that is where it ultimately came from.

So even the most powerful and influential trump voters in the country ultimately screwed themselves by helping him regain power, in this case a powerful Committee Chairman who got screwed out of his position and kicked off his committee.
