Time for another installment of How Did Trump Voters Screw Themselves Today where we get an especially shitty move planned by trump that will seriously harm not only a few of his own supporters in a very personal and direct way, but of course it will also harm thousands of decent and reasonable people as well. 

The GOP loves to invoke September 11th. “Never Forget!” is a phrase they have eagerly used as a cudgel for two decades to criticize anyone who did not enthusiastically embrace the Iraq War or the expansion of the surveillance state or any number of other Cheney-era machinations. But the updated version of that seems to be “Never Forget… until your billionaire donors want more tax cuts.” Of course, to get those tax cuts they need to slash spending on “waste” or “fiscally irresponsible” programs.

One of those programs that trump wants to throw in the trash, and that the GOP Congress cut out of the latest spending deal this week, is 9/11 Healthcare funding for firefighters, police officers, and other New Yorkers that lived and worked in the area of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. This money covers treatment for a wide variety of ailments including many cancers that first responders and others in downtown have continued to be struck with over the past two decades. Firefighters and their unions fought for years to get Congress to first pass the initial bills to help provide healthcare for these sick responders and then continued to work to expand eligibility to more people and for a wider variety of cancers and illnesses that are a direct result of the toxins in the air in the months after the attack.

The Firefighters unions had previously endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 but apparently many of them supported trump this time and they refused to endorse Kamala Harris. Now it looks like their support for trump and the GOP could leave many victims of the September 11th attacks to lose the funding that was helping them pay for cancer treatments and other healthcare. So while most decent Americans will never forget the heroics of the FDNY and other first responders, some trump supporting firefighters seemed to forget that trump only cares about himself and that he will always forget about his supporters the moment after he stops needing their votes.
